How we handle practitioner and practice information

This page explains how Supportful handles information submitted through the practitioner forms on this website, as well as limited professional and business information collected from permitted publicly available sources.

Supportful’s application is not open to the public yet and will have its own privacy policy before launch.

Information we collect

Supportful may receive practitioner and practice information directly from practitioners, from people submitting a missing practice or from permitted publicly available professional and business sources.

This information may include:

  • Practitioner or practice name
  • Professional title or practitioner category
  • Regulatory college, professional association or public registration information
  • Practice location and service area
  • Public business contact information
  • Practice website
  • Whether care is available in person, virtually or both
  • Broad maternal health seasons and areas of support
  • Languages offered

When someone submits or claims a listing, we may also collect a private email address so that we can verify the submission or contact the person about the listing. Private verification contact information is not published.

We do not ask for information about patients or clients. Do not submit patient, client or personal health information through a Supportful form, email or other communication.

Information obtained from public sources

Supportful may collect limited professional and business information from permitted publicly available sources, including professional registers, practitioner directories and official practice websites.

We may use this information to create and maintain basic directory listings that help women understand and locate maternal health support.

A basic listing may be published without prior confirmation from the practitioner. Practitioners may contact Supportful to claim a listing, correct inaccurate information or request its removal.

What we do with the information

  • We use it to review, create, correct and maintain basic practitioner and practice listings.
  • We use it to help women identify different types of maternal health support and where that support may be available.
  • We may use it to understand which practitioners and services exist across Canada as Supportful expands.
  • We may contact a practitioner or submitter if information requires clarification.
  • Public business information may appear in the Supportful directory.
  • Private verification contact information is not published.

We do not sell practitioner information, share it for advertising or add practitioners to a marketing list unless they separately ask to receive those communications.

Inclusion in Supportful’s directory does not mean that Supportful endorses, recommends, employs, partners with or has clinically assessed the practitioner or practice.

Claiming, correcting or removing a listing

Practitioners may contact Supportful to:

  • Claim an existing listing
  • Correct inaccurate or outdated information
  • Report a duplicate listing
  • Tell us that a practice has moved, changed its name or closed
  • Request removal of a listing

Claiming, correcting or requesting removal of a basic listing does not require a paid Supportful Professional membership.

How long we keep information

We keep directory information for as long as it remains relevant to maintaining an accurate practitioner directory. We may periodically review or update information obtained from public sources.

Information submitted for verification, correction or contact purposes is kept only for as long as reasonably necessary for those purposes, unless a longer period is required by law.

Where information is stored

Practitioner information is stored in Supportful’s database.

Private form submissions and verification information can only be accessed by authorized members of Supportful. Information identified as public professional or business information may appear in the practitioner directory.
